Description Kai 2010-10-24 11:07:22 UTC
The following was initially reported to Debian's BTS (by myself). After I've answered some questions by Cyril Brulebois there and off the tracker he asked me to report the bug upstream, that is here.

> Dear X Strike Force,
> I've installed the joystick input driver yesterday alongside evdev (also from > experimental). And that lead to an unusable desktop environment (KDE in my
> case). It seems like joystick is reporting key presses that didn't happen
> (the Joystick wasn't touched) or reported multiple events for keys on my
> keyboard. E.g. if I'd press the up arrow key in Konsole it would also report > the down arrow, which lead to a constant switch between an empty line in the > shell and the last entry. If I moved the mouse near the borders of the screen > the virtual desktops would switch in an endless cycle until I moved the mouse > back to the middle of the screen. Unfortunately nothing is logged to /var/log/Xorg.0.log,
> so I'm not entirely sure it's joystick, it might also be evdev which isn't
> coping well with joystick. But I'd be happy to assist you in debugging this.

Please see the original report in Debian's BTS for further information.

sounds like the device is added twice, once with the joystick driver, once with the evdev driver. without the Xorg.log, it's hard to say for sure.

In reply to comment #1:
The Xorg.0.log is attached to the Debian bug I've referenced in the URL field and pointed to in comment #0, sorry for not making that more clear. Here the direct download link: <http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?msg=15;filename=xorg-bug-script.log.xz;att=1;bug=601201>

Mass closure: This bug has been untouched for more than six years, and is not
obviously still valid. Please reopen this bug or file a new report if you continue to experience issues with current releases.
