The system looks healthy. No reported errors or hangs. What's the exact symptom of the freeze? The display stops updating? Does it still VT switch, is it still accessible over the network?

Please try kernel-3.6.y and xf86-video-intel-2.20.9+ for a large selection of fixes for hotplug hangs.

Facing the same problem on both Ubuntu 12.10 and Ubuntu 13.04 on a Sony Vaio VGN-SR19XN (Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07)). See below for the tested configurations.

1) Ubuntu 12.10 configuration

Kernel: 3.5.0-19 x86_64
dpkg -l | grep intel
ii intel-gpu-tools 1.3-0ubuntu2 amd64 tools for debugging the Intel graphics driver
ii libdrm-intel1:amd64 2.4.39-0ubuntu1 amd64 Userspace interface to intel-specific kernel DRM services -- runtime
ii whois 5.0.19 amd64 intelligent WHOIS client
ii xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.20.9-0ubuntu2 amd64 X.Org X server -- Intel i8xx, i9xx display driver

2) Ubuntu 13.04 configuration

Kernel: 3.7.0-6 x86_64
dpkg -l | grep intel
ii intel-gpu-tools 1.3-0ubuntu2 amd64 tools for debugging the Intel graphics driver
ii libdrm-intel1:amd64 2.4.40-1 amd64 Userspace interface to intel-specific kernel DRM services -- runtime
ii xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.20.14-0ubuntu1 amd64 X.Org X server -- Intel i8xx, i9xx display driver
Comment 26 Daniel Vetter 2012-12-15 18:00:15 UTC
Lionel, can you please file a separate bug for your issue? Chances are really high that it's a different underlying bug with similar symptoms. And since untangling bug reporter after the fact is messy we'd like to keep bugs separate until we're sure we're dealing with duplicates.
Comment 27 Cristian Aravena 2013-02-20 18:58:00 UTC
Mr. Chris Wilson:

What version of packages fixed bug?
Comment 28 Cristian Aravena 2013-02-20 19:03:11 UTC
Please, I can test :)
Comment 29 Chris Wilson 2013-02-25 10:08:19 UTC
You will need drm-intel-next and xf86-video-intel.git.
Comment 30 Cristian Aravena 2013-02-25 14:35:10 UTC
