In doom3 demo some surfaces get black when the player walks towards them and some areas render so slow that its unplayable. Tweaking the AutoExec.cfg and giving "r_renderer arb" option to the engine speeds up these areas a bit, but the game crashes spreading these errors: drmRadeonCmdBuffer: -22. Kernel failed to parse or rejected command stream. In case that this is with the r600 classic driver: Try using r600g, since it solves a lot of the shadow volume rendering issues that the classic driver has. IIRC some developer stated somewhere (I think a bugreport here on FDO) that it isn't very likely that the shadow problems will get fixed with the classic driver.

Since I also have rendering errors in doom3, which are probably related to shadows, I'm attaching some screenshots which show them. Using r600g on a RV740. libdrm, mesa and xf86-video-ati all git master. kernel is fresh d-r-t.

Note that that isn't necessarily a bug in the driver, the application could really be passing us invalid values there.
Is this still an issue on r300g with the latest code from git?
This report is a bit misleading, as it was for r300g originally, but it shifted to r600g in the meantime. Doom 3 is flawless on my rv350 with r300g, so I think this report should either be closed or the component should be changed to gallium/r600, if the problem still exists there.
