When PDF is rendered as HTML or XML with Poppler library, the Dagger symbol (unicode 2020) is displayed as the symbol curly braket {

Works for me. Please attach a screenshot and specify the poppler version you are using.

The { is the text that is there. Just that it is drawn as a dagger. Nothing we can do to fix that.
