Description Fabian Rodriguez 2011-01-26 11:02:15 UTC
I am attaching a file that produces an error when trying to open it in writer.

I got this file on IRC, its origins are not certain so handle with care.

I was able to open this succesfully on a Mac with MS Office, however in LibreOffice I get "General Error. General input/output error" when attempting to open it and writer does not open at all.

I am attaching the expected document display (as PDF, generated from MS Office), the original .docs as well as a screen capture of the error message.

[This is an automated message.]
This bug was filed before the changes to Bugzilla on 2011-10-16. Thus it
started right out as NEW without ever being explicitly confirmed. The bug is
changed to state NEEDINFO for this reason. To move this bug from NEEDINFO back
to NEW please check if the bug still persists with the 3.5.0 beta1 or beta2 prereleases.
Details on how to test the 3.5.0 beta1 can be found at:
http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/BugHunting_Session_3.5.0.-1

needinfo keyword redundant by needinfo status.
Comment 6 Tom Hicks 2012-01-22 13:19:29 UTC
I am getting this same error on LibO_3.4.5_MacOS_x86 with a fresh install on Mac OSX 10.6.8. I'm unable to open any file saved as "word xml document" from Word 2011 in XML format. However, I AM able to open the same document if it appears in the recently opened menu (menu leftover from previous version of LO). In the recently-opened case the document is read as an ASCII text file.

In 3.5.0 problems still exist?

I can confirm crashing when opening attached example docx:
Hintergrund_Fluticasonfuroat_StandFebr2010.docx

in WRITER LibO 3.5.0 on Windows 7 Pro 64 bit.
Comment 10 sasha.libreoffice 2012-03-15 02:06:36 UTC
File Hintergrund_Fluticasonfuroat_StandFebr2010.docx opens without crash in 3.3.4 and 3.5.1 on Fedora 64 bit and in 3.5.0 beta 3 and 3.5.1 on Windows XP 32 bit
So, I can not reproduce crash
Changing status to NeedInfo to attract more testers to this bug

console logs on master

On pc Debian x86-64 with 3.5 branch and master, both updated today, I don't reproduce the crash.
However, I wanted to put console messages because they showed some problems.

Could you try with LO 3.5.3 and a brand new LO profile ? (see http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile)

If the problem is still present, it could be useful to retrieve a backtrace by following this great video : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fppBTs215yc
