Created attachment 45613 [details] Correct rendering of Windows version Same problem with softpipe, so the bug should probably be reassigned to Mesa core. I tried swrast too, but it will not run the game. Just for reference, I have attached a screenshot of how it's supposed to look.
The quote the game developer's post over at Phoronix: The lights are missing. Which means that deferred phase is not working. Which means that most likely G-buffers are not filled correctly because multiple render targets do not work. This should probably be filed as a bug against the driver.
Something useful for you guys: 1. Back up the original executables and shaders (in data/shader/cg/) 2. Grab this: http://alternativegames.net/temp/trineUnofficialBeta.tar.bz2 This build is UNOFFICIAL and UNSUPPORTED. Don't get it unless you know you need it. 3. There's some better logging on shader errors. Post new logs, including log from the game ~/.frozenbyte/trine/logs/log.txt

The interesting shaders are depthpass_mesh_pixel.cg entry mesh_deferred_all which fills the g-buffers and deferred_light_pixel.cg which uses those g-buffers.

Interesting, I have this with llvmpipe too, but it looks correct with nvc0, so I'd look for a driver specific issue.

Try this: Modify data/shader/cg/deferred_light_pixel.cg On about line 75 in function getAmbientSample change this: return lerp(half3(FOG_COLOR.xyz), result, deferredSample3.z); to this: return deferredSample1.xyz; This dumps g-buffer 1 to screen. Likewise for other buffers. g-buffers are as follows: 1 color. Should look pretty normal except for being completely fullbright 2 normals. Should be red-green-yellowish 3. light parameters. Should be mostly blue If you want to see how this should look on a working driver you need to disable lights. Easiest way to do this is to change function getPointlightSample around line 460. Change return result; to return half3(0.0);

Installed Windows version with WINE 1.3.14 everything works perfect, no graphical bugs at all. Tested On: Ubuntu 10.10 Mesa 7.10.2 (no GL_ATI_draw_buffers) Mesa 7.11-devel (git-f41e1db) (has GL_ATI_draw_buffers) Linux 2.6.36-02063604-generic Intel GMA 4500 256MB From the result, It seems that it is not a driver bug, rather than it is nVidia Linux Cg bug or Trine Linux version bug. Windows Trine version (from humble bundle) with WINE works perfectly.

Now it become easy to fix, it seems that TGSI_PROPERTY_FS_COLOR0_WRITES_ALL_CBUFS is set when it shouldn't be, the game looks fine with llvmpipe if I make it ignore this property. The nv50 and nvc0 drivers never cared about it and just assumed (had to, actually, the assumption was added when TGSI_PROPERTY_FS_COLOR0_WRITES_ALL_CBUFS didn't exist yet) that if multiple colour values are written, the render targets are supposed to receive separate values and not just colour 0.
Cool! The same fix works for r300g! (Commenting out the loop starting at line 472 in r300_fs.c) :]
For r600, this: File r600_shader.c The loop at line 697 can be removed to see if this fix it. I will try this evening of nobody test it.
I just wanted to say thanks to Christoph for figuring this out, and another thanks to Turo for working on it (Considering how rare it is for game developers to care about the open drivers, and how swamped you must be with support issues for the bundle this is doubly appreciated!)

Maybe there isn't a problem with Mesa, or maybe Turo found a suitable workaround. But if you go to the humblebundle site and download the updated build of Trine, the issue is resolved. I am running Mesa from git master with none of the patches mentioned in this bug report (except any that were merged to master), and lighting is fixed. If I go back to the Trine build that was posted on HIB3 release day, I'm back to having no lighting. Game seems to render correctly. Now, performance.... right. :)

I was testing Trine on both r300g and r600g and the game seems to render everything correctly (r300g is a little faster though). You should update Trine to a newer version. There is an updated installer on the Humble Bundle website called 'TrineUpdate2.32.run'.

It seems like I've missed the update to the game itself, and its importance. I can confirm it working fine on r600g (HD4550), so this can be closed again.
