Created attachment 46912 [details] After equation editing, showing malformation When equations are edited from within simpress presentation software, any Greek character used in the equation becomes malformed. This problem is not observed when the equation editor is invoked from swriter. Circumstance: I had a set of slides in ODP format. While editing some equations, I observed that Greek characters became overly "tall," that is, there was significant blank area created above each Greek character in the equation. Several slides contained equations, but opening, editing, and saving the slides did not affect the layout of the equations. Only when the equations were edited within the SImpress environment did the problem occur. When the same slides (with malformed Greek characters) were opened in OpenOffice.org, and the equation editor entered, the Greek characters went back to normal with no other changes being made to the equation. Upon exiting the equation editor and saving the slides in OpenOffice.org, the equations remain correct in appearance. Attached are screen shots of one such slide, in the correct appearance and in the Libre Office SImpress-generated malformation. This effect can be recreated in any slide having an embedded equation which includes Greek characters.
Created attachment 46913 [details] Slide before editing, showing correct display of Greek characters
NOT reproducible with "LibreOffice 3.4Beta5 – WIN7 Home Premium (64bit) German UI [DEV300m103 (Build:5)]" @J William Cupp: Please - attach a sample presentation document -- contribute a step by step instruction how to reproduce the problem. - contribute information concerning your OS, PC (Video Card)
I am attaching a detailed explanation, together with screen shots. This is prepared in a open document text file. Also, I am attaching a single-slide presentation document with which the case trial was performed.

Created attachment 47107 [details] Test slide show for experimentation
Still NOT reproducible with "LibreOffice 3.4.0RC2 – WIN7 Home Premium (64bit) German UI [OOO340m1 (Build:12)]". @J William Cupp: We will never get some progress here if you do not describe the steps how to reproduce the problem more precise. That means we need every key press and every mouse click you do; you won't believe how many ways I know how to exit a formula editor or to start editing a formula. Ab all details might be important. Please do not write a novel, but a step by step instruction how to create a sample document from the scratch and how to reproduce the problem.: 1. Open new Presentation from start center 2. Click <Finish> 3. click on text line in text field 4. <Del> 5. Menu 'Insert > Object > Formula' 6. Copy / Paste following text in quotation marks into formula editor pane: "%chi^2 = SUM{{(O - E)^2}OVER{E}}" 7. <Esc> 8. 9. . . .
These steps reproduce the problem every time. I start with an existing slide that contains an equation having Greek characters, but which appears normal. 1. Reboot computer. Start up sequence includes web browser (Opera), IM client (Pidgin), Skype Client, text editor (TextPad5), and Windows Media Player. Otherwise, clean memory space. 2. Double click on test file, "Example Slide.odp" Libre Office launches and opens document in SImpress. 3. Open equation editor by double clicking on embedded equation in slide. 4. Close equation editor by clicking on slide area outside of equation box. 5. Save slide show (<CTRL><S>). Exit document (<CTRL><W>). 6. Exit SImpress. Note: if I do not Save the slide show (step 5), the malformation does not persist. When I reopen the slide, it is normal unless I edit the equation again. However, if I do Save the slide show (step 5), the malformation remains persistent through a closing and re-launching of Libre Office. Note: As stated earlier, this only happens in the Windows 7 version. I can perform the exact same steps on the exact same machine running in Linux, with no ill effect. I only have this one Windows 7 machine for test purposes. Opinion: it *almost* seems like editing the equations inside of SImpress replaces the Greek characters with some different font. I cannot tell for sure -- the equation editor font settings are unchanged. I tried moving the "deformed" copy of the slide to another machine and opening it there. The character was not "right," yet it was not as badly deformed. I don't see how it can be a font set installation deficiency on the machine in question. Upon opening (before editing the equation) the Greek characters all appear normally -- so that means the fonts are installed in the machine. Also, as stated elsewhere, I have not seen this problem arise when working in the equation editor from SWriter ... only when working from SImpress.
Replace whiteboard status "UNCONFIRMED" with a move to status "NEEDINFO" for unassigned new bugs.
needinfo keyword redundant by needinfo status.
can not reproduce initial bug but if enter into formula editor from presentation and slightly change size of formula, then formula immediately becomes very small and this can not be undone or repaired.
Dear bug submitter! Due to the fact, that there are a lot of NEEDINFO bugs with no answer within the last six months, we close all of these bugs. To keep this message short, more infos are available @ https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/NeedinfoClosure#Statement Thanks for understanding and hopefully updating your bug, so that everything is prepared for developers to fix your problem. Yours! Florian
