Description Hans de Goede 2011-05-26 03:37:06 UTC
Me again, this time I got a (successfully recovered) hung gpu while not doing
anything special (answering mail in thunderbird under gnome3).

System environment:
-- chipset: i5-2400 (HD 2000 gfx), Intel Corporation Cougar Point mobo
-- system architecture: 64-bit
-- xf86-video-intel: git 9d6e02a135efdea1d169d1938359ab2b553e941c
-- xserver: xorg-x11-server-Xorg-1.10.1-14.fc15.x86_64
-- mesa: git 5af46e836073d2112b147b524e441bdb808cc128
-- libdrm: libdrm-2.4.25-1.fc15.x86_64
-- kernel:2.6.39-1.fc16.x86_64
-- Linux distribution: Fedora 15
-- Machine or mobo model: FUJITSU mobo: D3071-S1
-- Display connector: DVI (1920x1200@60)

Here is the error state:

I got another hang under gnome3, again while answering mail in thunderbird. I've not done anything special (like run trackballs, which is know to cause issues) since booting the machine this morning.

Here is the error state for the second hang:

The good news ;-) is that these are another batch of mesa hangs.

Could you try again with Mesa master? We just fixed a bunch of GPU hangs on Sandybridge, and I'm wondering if it helped.
Comment 5 Hans de Goede 2011-07-22 00:01:46 UTC
Actually I've not see this hang for a long time (pretty much since filing the bug report). Because of this and several other issues I've been tracking both mesa and kernel (linus' tree) git updating about once a week. So it seems this one indeed has been fixed a while ago already.

Note it could be the hang went away when I turned semaphores off (which I did once the missed irq issue was resolved). Actually I think that is pretty likely, as I remember having various hangs before that (so I had to choose between the stalls caused by the missed irq's or the occasional hang) and after that sandybridge graphics have been pretty good for me. I had one rendering corruption, but rebasing to latest mesa git fixed that :)

So were there more hangs or it is fixed in some of the mesa updates?

As stated in comment #5, with semaphores off (the default) I've not seen any more hangs. I think they will likely come back if I turn semaphores back on. Which is exactly why I'm not doing that.
