Description aleritty 2011-06-04 14:57:22 UTC
I have an acer laptop, with an ati radeon (M92 [Mobility Radeon HD 4500 Series]) video card and fglrx driver, an atheros AR928X Wireless Network Adapter.
I tried this with ubuntu (10.10 and 11.04) and with Sabayon.
When I use pm-utils 1.4.1 I have this problem:
When I detach the AC power from my laptop, after few seconds (usually not immediately) the laptop completely "freeze" with no mouse movement, no keyboard input and no sysrq response. The only way to shutdown the laptop is phisically detach the battery.

None of the log show something useful (as i can see) because the computer simply hangs suddendly!

In the 1.3 branch i doesn't has this problem (in ubuntu i simply downgraded to the 1.3 version to solve the problem, but in sabayon I can't actually)

Tell me if you need more information and what kind of information you need.

I have the same issue with pm-utils 1.4.1 on archlinux.

Once unplugged from power supply, the laptop freeze.

This issues starts to appears when I installed pm-utils, it appears that it comes from the wireless energy saving mode.

I disabled the associated hook in power.d/wireless and the freeze stops to appears.

The wifi card is a broadcom 4313 using the broadcom-wl driver in kernel 3.3. Freeze also happen if I use the brcmsmac free driver built-in the kernel.

I'm pretty sure it is a driver/hardware issue, but I'm completing this bug as it can help people with this issue. Perhaps it can also be special-cased in pm-utils?

pm-utils hasn't been touched in eight years, none of this is likely to get addressed. Closing bugs and disabling the bz product.
