I'd appreciate if xdm supported installing systemd unit file as specified in daemon(7). I'll submit a patch in a while.

Patch supporting install of 'xdm.service'

This patch adds a configure --with-systemdsystemunitdir as suggested by upstream and installs xdm.service if enabled.

Can you send your patch to xorg-devel for review?  If not, I'll probably get 
around to it in about a month or two based on how long it takes me to ge 
through the bugzilla backlog.

systemdsystemunitdir is a but of a mouthfull.  Can this be a bit more succint?

He already did and the patch was applied to git master:
