Description Jeremy Newton 2011-06-23 08:12:44 UTC
When a message is sent to an offline contact, the messages don't always seem to be recovered on the other end when the contact signs on.
As well, when a user, who is not appear-offline/invisible contacts a contact who is, not all the messages tend to get through.

Another user also noted: "Well, I tried with a friend's MSN client in Windows. He can get all my messages, no matter if I'm offline or away, etc. I've tried sending myself messages while being offline (really offline) ... I tiped 1 (enter) 2 (enter) 3, 4, 5 and when I logged in I just got the "3". And if I'm invisible I don't get anything ... Or maybe sometimes one out of many."

How to reproduce: Sign in using any client (papyon, libpurple, WLM) and try sending an offline message to an offline contact, then an invisible contact. Observe what is received on the other end.

Papyon version 0.5.5-1ubuntu1.2 from Ubuntu's Natty-updates repository.

So is the issue about sending offline message from Papyon or receiving offline message in papyon ?

Both seem to work fine when tested using papyon/tests/test_offline_message_box.py

I've only experienced it with receiving, personally.
I don't seem to get all the offline messages until I first send them a message, which seems to only last as long as I'm signed in ("appear offline"/invisible included). Therefore I don't get offline messages that were sent while I wasn't signed in.

I'm using emesene and already talked to the emesene devs; they claim it's papyon not emesene. Given I don't know much about all this, I would take their word.

I'm using the latest emesene (2.11.7) and the latest papyon (0.5.5)

If you can give me a method/instructions of testing this without emesene, I can give you any output of that as well.

Please consider sometimes microsoft's servers tend to reply with nice
500s with no apparent reason, we should consider this
