Description PAB 2011-06-23 11:38:05 UTC
I would like to participate to the development of LibreOffice. I think it is a excellent initiative. My first step was to move to the latest pre-release 3.4.0 but I run into a lot of trouble during the install.

I am running a HP Elitebook 8540p with i7 core (64bits). Linux 2.6.38.8-generic, Ubuntu 11.04 (natty) up to date, Genome 2.32.1

Here are the troubles that I faced.

1/ Read me says "This directory contains a subdirectory called "DEBS".
But the directory I downloaded contain RPMS. So, I did install RPM

2/ sudo rpm -i *.rpm RPM
but has an error:
Failed dependencies:
/bin/sh is needed by libreoffice3.4-dict-en-3.4.0-12.x86_64
/bin/sh is needed by libreoffice3.4-dict-es-3.4.0-12.x86_64
/bin/sh is needed by libreoffice3.4-dict-fr-3.4.0-12.x86_64

3/ Changing the commend line for: rpm -Uvih --nodeps *.rpm
error: can't create transaction lock on /home/pablanche/.rpmdb/.rpm.lock (No such file or directory)

4/ Looking around I found the DEBS in the "other way to install LibreOffice" Great guys, could you be a bit consistent here?

5/sudo dpkg -i *.deb works in the DEBS folder but ...

6/sudo dpkg -i *.deb in the desktop-integration failed:
error processing libreoffice3.4-debian-menus_3.4-12_all.deb (--install):
conflicting packages - not installing libreoffice-debian-menus
Errors were encountered while processing

7/ LibreOffice 3.4.0 opens but I can not open any document or create a new document.

Guys, you got a lot of work to do to come even close to MS O :( Good luck I rely on you.

This bug was filed before the changes to Bugzilla on 2011-10-16. Thus it
started right out as NEW without ever being explicitly confirmed. The bug is
changed to state NEEDINFO for this reason. To move this bug from NEEDINFO back
to NEW please check if the bug still persists with the 3.5.0 beta1 or beta2 prereleases.
Details on how to test the 3.5.0 beta1 can be found at:

This time, I installed LoDev 3.5.0 beta successfully.

Readme file state: "please read the section below entitled Deinstallation"
Such section does not exist.

I used Synaptic to remove my previous version of LibreOffice.
