I have a large number of fonts, so I use a 3rd party Font manager program (FontExpert 2003). FontExpert can install fonts dynamically, and has the option to install fonts into the registry WITHOUT copying the font file into the C:\Windows\Fonts directory, the fonts can remain in a different folder outside the Windows OS folder. In other programs (E.g. Xara Photo & graphic Designer) If I realise I need a new font in a particular document, iI can add the font with FontExpert while the application is running, and the next time the styles, fonts, or paragraph popup windows are opened the new fonts will be detected. However LibreOffice 3.3 still needs the applcaition to be shut down and restarted before newly added fonts are detected. In fact on at least one occasion I have needed to reboot Windows to get LibreOffice to "see" a newly added font. This is a nuisance. Detecting new fonts on the fly would improve LibrOffice's usability.
