Created attachment 49591 [details]
ods with named range saved

Tested with LibO 3.4.2 RC3 on Ubuntu 11.04 32bit
Steps to reproduce:
1) Open a worksheet and create a Named Range. The attached file shows "fruit" A2:A5. Verify with Data > Select Range. Note the "fruit" range exists.
2) Save the file as Excel/97/200/XP (.xls).
3) Re-open the .xls file. Verify with Data > Select Range. Note the box is empty, no named ranges exist.

Expected behavior:
The named range should exist in the .xls file, same as the .ods.

This looks like a different issue than #38113. That attachment doesn't include any named ranges afaict.

You have used database ranges instead of named ranges. In contrast to calc excel does not support named database ranges but only one unnamed database range per sheet

You'll find named ranges at Insert->Names->Define.

Ah! I see now. Thanks for taking time to comment.
