Description matthias 2011-08-12 04:53:30 UTC
Files on a network drive that were created via Explorer menu (New -> OpenDocument * Document") cannot be deleted.

1) Navigate to a network drive
2) Create a new file via "File -> New -> OpenDocument [type] document"
3) Try to rename, move or delete the file.

A message is shown, telling that the file is in use somewhere else.
The created file can be edited, opened and even overwritten without any problems.
This does not affect local drives or files created by saving a document on a network drive.

NOT reproducible with "LibreOffice 3.4.2 - WIN7 Home Premium (64bit) German UI [OOO340m1 (Build:203)]". I have availabel a Network drive via Internet / VPN on a Far away what do I know what it is machine.

1. Rightlick in root Z:\
2. New ODF document
   creates "OpenDocument Text (neu).odt"
3. Click
4. Press Del key
   Expected: document will be deleted
   Actual: as expected

Report is much to rare to find out what might go wrong.

@matthias@funsite2000.de:
May I ask you to read hints on <http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/BugReport> carefully?
Then please:
- Attach a sample document, if possible (hope you can upload from netdrive)
- Attach screenshots with comments (you can add information using LibO DRAW
and then attach your screenshot with comments as PDF) if necessary, because
you can not know what others will see with your sample,
  Screenshot of Message is required!
- Contribute a step by step instruction containing every key press and every
mouse click how to reproduce your problem. "Try to remove" is not useful
- add information
  -- what exactly is unexpected
-- and why do you believe it's unexpected (cite Help or Documentation!)
-- concerning your PC (especially: video card)
-- concerning your OS, EVERY DETAIL!
-- All Available data concerning your Netdrive
-- concerning your LibO localization (UI language)
–- Libo settings that might be related to your problems
-- how you launch LibO and how you opened the sample document
–- If you can contribute an OOo Issue that might be useful
-- everything else crossing your mind after you read a.m. URL
Please file Bug reports with status UNCONFIRMED if your are not absolutely sure that you contributed all required background information and that the problem will be reproducible with information you can provide!

Thank you!

Thank you for your hints. I'm new to filing bugs, so I don't know everything by now, but hope to learn soon.
This problem appears on my work computer, so i can't upload a screenshot now. I will do that when i'm back at the office.

Steps leading to the problem for me:

1. Navigating to my custom folder on a shared work storage
2. Right-click, select "New", then "OpenDocument Spreadsheet"
3. Creates "Neu OpenDocument Tabellendokument.ods" (highlighted for rename)
3. Press Enter
4. Press Del
5. Confirm deletion message

Expected: Document will be deleted
Actual: Document is not deleted. An error message pops up, telling that the file is in use. The file is actually not in use.

At 3., trying to enter another filename brings up the same message (except telling rename not possible).
At 4. using right-click -> delete brings up the same message.
At 4. pressing F2 or using right-click -> rename and entering a different name brings up the same message.
At 4. using "Strg+X" or right-click -> cut and pasting somewhere else brings up the same message.

The system is a Windows XP 32-bit SP3 with network logon to a local Windows server. The network drive is a common storage for all workers on that server where everyone has an own folder. It is pre-configured for every user to automatically connect. I have local administration rights for my client computer, but not for the server. I installed LibO from my user account. On the machine is also a Microsoft Office 2003 installed.
I tried creating several other documents, including bitmaps, MS Office documents and txt files. Non of them created problems.

My LibO installation is a german 3.4.2 release. I have no special settings made. I could open that created document (right-click -> open with...) with LibO and with IZArc, do changes to it and save it. I could save another document as "Neu OpenDocument Tabellendokument", overwriting the original file. It was still undeletable afterwards.

I tried uninstalling LibO, and afterwards i could delete the files. After installing LibO again, i created new files, and they were undeletable.

Hope this information can help better.

Do you have rights to delete files in the directory?
Comment 5 Rainer Bielefeld Retired 2011-08-16 22:13:43 UTC
@mariosv
Reporter told in Comment 2 "... several other documents, including bitmaps, MS Office documents and txt files. Non of them created problems". I believe he wanted to say: "I was able to delete those other documents created on the same Net Drive without problems."

I just remember to have had a similar problem (with the same error message" with WIN7 and 7-Zip. After I had renamed a folder in 7-Zip-File-Explorer I was unable to delete it, although all other excess was possible without any problem. Unfortunately I can't remember whether I saw that on a local HDD or on a Network Drive on my laptop, I will have to check that and to think about a possible relation (common root) tho the reported problem.
