In fontconfig/doc:

 /home/trs80/bin/install-check -m 644 ./fontconfig-devel/r1159.html
/scratch/gnometinderbox/microtinder/build-output/share/doc/fontconfig/fontconfig-devel/fontconfig-devel/r1159.html

ie, the makefile tries to install the generated files in fontconfig-devel/*html
into fontconfig-devel/fontconfig-devel/*html. I think this is caused by the
makefile referring to these files as $(HTML_DIR)/* where HTML_DIR is
fontconfig-devel

I suspect your version of automake/autoconf are old; newer versions construct
the destination path for the devel docs to explicitly remove all directory names.
