Description jon 2011-09-09 05:07:28 UTC
As I am Swedish I use both Swedish and English when writing. If i write a document in Writer in say English and the default setting is to check the spelling in Swedish everything will be marked as spelled wrong. The normal user will hit F7 (or click the icon) and change the language chosen in the drop-down menu. This will only affect the current word, and they will have to use the drop-down for every single word.

LibreOffice should offer the user a choice when changing the language in that drop-down to set it as the language for the paragraph or the whole text. It should also automatically identify what language the user is typing in and automatically change the spell check to that language.

This bug was filed before the changes to Bugzilla on 2011-10-16. Thus it
started right out as NEW without ever being explicitly confirmed. The bug is
changed to state NEEDINFO for this reason. To move this bug from NEEDINFO back
to NEW please check if the bug still persists with the 3.5.0 beta1 or beta2 prereleases.
Details on how to test the 3.5.0 beta1 can be found at:

To select language for part of text:
select this part of text
do in menu Format->Character
in dialog "Character" select first tab and in field "Language" change language

sometimes this my done using styles more quick

This functionality was in previous versions of OpenOffice, but developers decided that it is not useful and deleted. This was useful functionality.
