My 'test-leaks' branch fixes Bug #41125 (leaks) and Bug #41126 (crashes), then gets rid of various test-specific memory leaks and adds infrastructure to run the tests under valgrind, so we don't get into this situation again. See "URL" for the branch in cgit.

10 months later, I'm going for "easier to ask forgiveness than permission". Branch merged, please revert anything you don't like. Fixed in git for 0.102.

I didn't do this when I said I had, but now I have. Fixed in git for 0.102.
