LibreOffice hung twice when I tried to make changes to a file in 2007 Word XML format. I lost my changes that I entered & had to do all that work again. I had to finally store it in ODF to save the changes I made to the original file. The error logs are attached herein. I have also reported this bug here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openjdk-6/ # JRE version: 6.0_22-b22 # Java VM: OpenJDK Client VM (20.0-b11 mixed mode, sharing linux-x86 ) # Derivative: IcedTea6 1.10.2 # Distribution: Ubuntu 11.04, package 6b22-1.10.2-0ubuntu1~11.04.1 # Problematic frame: # C [libuno_sal.so.3+0x2d198] rtl_str_getLength+0x8

[This is an automated message.] This bug was filed before the changes to Bugzilla on 2011-10-16. Thus it started right out as NEW without ever being explicitly confirmed. The bug is changed to state NEEDINFO for this reason. To move this bug from NEEDINFO back to NEW please check if the bug still persists with the 3.5.0 beta1 or beta2 prereleases. Details on how to test the 3.5.0 beta1 can be found at: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/BugHunting_Session_3.5.0.-1 more detail on this bulk operation: http://nabble.documentfoundation.org/RFC-Operation-Spamzilla-tp3607474p3607474.html
This is (at least at the surface) a Writer issue, therefore changing the 'Component' field accordingly. @goldfish: Could you please try if this problem is still reproducible for you with an up-to-date LibreOffice version (3.5.3, or at least 3.4.6)? This would be very helpful. Thank you very much!
@Roman I do not want to try and reproduce the bug now & introduce confounding factors. This is because: I have changed the version of my OS (clean install to Ubuntu 12.04) & made several changes unique to my system for example the Global Menu bar for LO in this latest Ubuntu & have also activated quick-starter. I feel the Global Menu bar for LO in this latest Ubuntu makes LO very slow to start & it causes it to crash very often. In fact, after this Global Menu bar of LO installation, even the Print Preview causes LO to crash now. Fortunately, the recovery is perfect as far as data-recovery but annoying & time-consuming & sometimes breaks the rhythm of the work flow. Therefore, I do not want to reproduce the bug now as I may confuse the issue with the bug of Global Menu for LO.
Dear bug submitter! Due to the fact, that there are a lot of NEEDINFO bugs with no answer within the last six months, we close all of these bugs. To keep this message short, more infos are available @ https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/NeedinfoClosure#Statement Thanks for understanding and hopefully updating your bug, so that everything is prepared for developers to fix your problem. Yours! Florian
