Description Albert Pool 2011-10-10 03:10:50 UTC
Micro-Star MS-8806 card with Riva TNT2 chip. The card hadn't been used for years; the fan had to blow a lot of dust away before it would run quietly. It's working fine with Nouveau, even Google Earth and a couple of Compiz effects work (though compiz-check says that the card is unsupported). But there's an irritating issue with the mouse pointer.

The mouse pointer often flickers or disappears when I do not move the mouse. When moving the mouse it appears again.

I have already sent my VBIOS to mupuf.

The problem seems to become less serious when running Compiz instead of Metacity.

With the 3.1 kernel it has improved a bit. Now the pointer only disappears when clicking something, or when a new window opens and covers the pointer.

In my opinion the card is now suitable for basic desktop use.

It appears that this bug report has laid dormant for quite a while. Sorry we haven't gotten to it. Since we fix bugs all the time, chances are pretty good that your issue has been fixed with the latest software. Please give it a shot. (Linux kernel 3.10.7, xf86-video-nouveau 1.0.9, mesa 9.1.6, or their git versions.) If upgrading to the latest isn't an option for you, your distro's bugzilla is probably the right destination for your bug report.

In an effort to clean up our bug list, we're pre-emptively closing all bugs that haven't seen updates since 2011. If the original issue remains, please make sure to provide fresh info, see http://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/Bugs/ for what we need to see, and re-open this one.

Thanks,

The Nouveau Team
