Created attachment 52275 [details] dmesg output This is from an Asus X5QS laptop with Geforce GT 555M graphics. During boot this error is printed on the console and it hangs when starting X.
The kernel oops should be fixed already in nouveau git, there is some unanswered questions about the issue that caused it to be revealed in the first place though. Are you by any chance able to do a mmiotrace[1] of the NVIDIA binary driver for me? [1] http://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/MmioTrace
I was able to experiment a bit more today (it's not my own laptop). It looks like it's an Optimus system and I can't get the nvidia drivers to work: [ 230.704] (--) NVIDIA(0): Connected display device(s) on GeForce GT 555M at PCI:1:0:0 [ 230.704] (--) NVIDIA(0): none [ 230.708] (EE) NVIDIA(0): No display devices found for this X screen. Still, I made the mmiotrace of the X server trying to start. If there's anything else I can try, please ask.

It appears that this bug report has laid dormant for quite a while. Sorry we haven't gotten to it. Since we fix bugs all the time, chances are pretty good that your issue has been fixed with the latest software. Please give it a shot. (Linux kernel 3.10.7, xf86-video-nouveau 1.0.9, mesa 9.1.6, or their git versions.) If upgrading to the latest isn't an option for you, your distro's bugzilla is probably the right destination for your bug report. In an effort to clean up our bug list, we're pre-emptively closing all bugs that haven't seen updates since 2011. If the original issue remains, please make sure to provide fresh info, see http://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/Bugs/ for what we need to see, and re-open this one. Thanks, The Nouveau Team
