Would it make sense to update rules/base.xml.in in order to list Paiwan language for tw layout? I added and committed. Please check in git
Paiwan language is already included in the language list (ISO639 code is pwn). :) I somehow just forgot this letter when I first created the tw layouts.
For the default variant, it was not included, only for "indigenous" variant. I added it.
Well, that was on purpose. Paiwan language, like all other indigenous languages, except Truku (trv), needs the glottal stop (U+02BC). Saisiat (xsy) in addition to that needs the prolonged soundmark (U+02D0). While it is true that all those languages can also be typed with the standard layout (just need to press the right Alt key with the apostrophe or colon keys), I chose to create separate layouts to map those two letters to apostrophe and colon instead. Otherwise people will just type apostrophe and colon, because they think those letters look similar on the keyboard and we don't have proper character code points for them anyways. But that will cause trouble when they type those letters in file names, for example. In the past, people typed apostrophe and colon for those letters, because they either didn't know that Unicode has proper character codepoints for those letters, or they didn't want to use the "Insert Special Character" dialog in their word processor every time. What could be added to the standard layout are the codes for Minnan (nan) and Hakka (hak). At least when using the Latin alphabet, those languages can be typed with the standard layout, too. Just not, when using the Han characters. For that one needs to use an input method and a standard US layout... But because the layout is not optimized for those languages, I left them out initially. Also, we prefer to use Han characters for Minnan and Hakka and not the romanization systems.
You got me confused... Should Paiwan be listed for the default variant or should it not? If you think that the current base.xml.in should be amended - please let me know (or better - attach a patch)
