Description Chip Eastham 2011-11-22 08:14:23 UTC
Problem description: After installation, wizard to create an empty database fails with indefinite delay.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Install LibreOffice 3.4
2. Launch Base component
3. Choose create empty database and file directory in wizard

Current behavior: Application opens window but never completes the intialization of a database.

Expected behavior: Application should create an empty database and allow creation of tables, etc.

Platform (if different from the browser): Windows 7, Sun Java 6 standard edition

Browser: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64) AppleWebKit/535.2 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/15.0.874.121 Safari/535.2

I didn't reproduce this pb on a Debian x86-32 with 3.4.4 and openjdk 1.6.

Would it be a specific Windows pb ?
Comment 2 Chip Eastham 2011-12-04 09:18:30 UTC
I think that's right, Julien, a "Windows only" problem. I don't see the problem with the LibreOffice 3.3.2 package under Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick Meerkat), although that's not exactly the same release.

As a workaround I can open a sample database in Windows LibreOffice 3.4, make a copy of the database, and add new tables to the copy using Design View.

Do you reproduce with problem on 3.4.5 (with a brand new LO profile) and on 3.5.1 (again with a brand new LO profile) ?

Windows specific, I don't see this problem on Mac or Linux (32 or 64bit).

However, it might well be a user profile corruption problem, or else one of those hard to nail down "Java recognition on Windows" problems.

Chip, could you provide the exact version number of Java installed on your system ?

Alex

Hi Chip,

1) Are you using LO 3.5? The last stable version is 3.5.5. Is bug still in 3.5?

2) Could you provide the exact version number of Java installed on your
system?
Comment 6 Chip Eastham 2012-07-27 21:19:03 UTC
The problem appears fixed on my current Libre Office 3.4 installation under Windows 7, specifically:

Libre Office 3.4.4
OOO340m1 Build 402

Specifics of my Java 32-bit installation:

Oracle Java 6 Standard Edition
version 6, Update 33
build 1.6.0_33-b03

Where previously trying to launch the database component of Libre Office with the construction of an empty database would result in the reported endless clocking, currently the empty database is properly constructed, named, and opened. I tested table creation by design view and form creation for said table by wizard. Rows are created, saved, and persisted across invocations of Libre Office.

Yes, I agree it is resolved as FIXED.

We don't know if it's really fixed, there's no patch. So update to worksforme
