Examples of pictures in frame and not. Shows left hand cropping

Logged as a bug #831785 in https://lists.launchpad.net/desktop-packages/msg04717.html

Was asked to create this bug report here.

See attached doc.

It does not look good when one submits a document to a customer with the pictures affected in this way.

I can send you the original jpg's (also tried it with GIF, is same result), but I do not think I can add more than one attachment here.

Thanks for bugreport
Problem with attached document reproducible. It contains some errors. Writer 3.5.2 ans 3 Words (abi, K, ms) opens this document differently.

But how created this document? Please, provide step-by-step instruction how to create such document.

Workaround for Writer: set negative number for left side crop. For example -0,9 cm
Comment 2 Elmar 2012-04-27 07:52:46 UTC
I cannot figure out what I have done wrong in the creation of the template.

Note the attachments.

In the one case the crop is wrong, in the other it is OK.

If I load the Text styles from wrong document into the OK one, then the OK document's picture is also broken.

Thanks for additional information
Here my experiments: I saved file "crop error" into format fodt, then opened it by text editor and found there this style:
<style:default-style style:family="paragraph">
then there I found this text:
fo:margin-left="1.002cm"
When I change value to 0.0cm then picture becomes repaired

@ Elmar
As workaround we can also do this: rename odt file to zip, enter it, open file styles.xml in text editor and replace fo:margin-left="1.002cm" to fo:margin-left="0.0cm". Then rename again to zip
May be some templates affected by this problem, and produced from them documents becomes corrupted. Then fix them also.

Sorry for I have no better idea for now how to fix this

Document showing the error

Everytime I insert a picture in Writer it has a black border at the top and shows a similar cropping at the top. Editing the styles.xml fixes it.

Using Ubuntu 12.04 and LibreOffice 3.6.2

@ Sasha
I am embarrassed to see that I did not thank you for the suggestions. I did edit the xml (thanks for the detailed explanation since i am not that familiar with xml - my programming unfortunately ended a long time ago, and these days I am a user and no longer a creator) and the problem was resolved.

I think the problem came from the fact that I created the docs in MS Word and then used them in LO. (over a period of 20y of using MS there are lots of documents.)
Sadly, it seems to me that the good people at MS do not follow standards and when things don't suit them they simple change the standard. The problem, I guess, when one creates one's own standards.
