Description kivi 2012-02-11 05:31:11 UTC
Tryung to insert a formula in writer by Insert --> Object --> Formula does not open the Formual Editor.
There is inserted a placeholder for the formula but I can not enter any thing there.
When I made a document with formula in LO 3.4.5 it works well.
But if I open the same document from LO 3.5.0 RC3 the formula is there, but I can not edit it.
Same document when I open it with LO 3.4.5 I can edit same formula and save the document without any problems.
Comment 1 Julien Nabet 2012-02-11 14:39:34 UTC
Do you reproduce this problem with a brand new document ?
Could you attach a document where you can't edit formula with 3.5.0 RC3 ?
Have you got error messages in console ?
Comment 2 kivi 2012-02-13 05:03:30 UTC
Yes,

I did not use the console.
I tried it with a brand new document (ODT). I put there some cyrillic
text on Bulgarian (letters are same like in Russian even the Bulgarian
language is little bit different). I am using Unicode UTF 8 encoding.

In the beginning I opened a document first created with earlier LO
version, then edited with Libre Office 3.4.5. I needed to change one
formula but it was impossible with version 3.5.0 RC3. This way I found
the problem.

I did not have any messages for error. Simply the editor for formulas
did not appear and it was impossible to write in the formula area.

I will be capable to send additional information and samples probably
within tomorrow

I just installed Libre Office 3.5.0 final release one hour ago and try to use formula editor, I just had th same problem as Krasimir Ivanov :

A frame is created for the formula, but no text-zone to write formula, and no box with available symbols. Near all of the formula's features are missing.

Just tell me if I can do some action that will help to resolve that bug.

Running platform : Ubuntu LTS 10.04 (Lucid Lynx).
Think I'll try it on a Windows XP PC this weekend if possible.

PS: I can do become apparent mathematics symbols box (on French Interface by clicking on Affichage > Éléments, probably in English Show > Elements) but it doesn't works cause the text-zone is missing. See joined screenshots.

What about if you uncheck "Enable experimental (unstable) features" in Tools > Options > LibreOffice > General ?

Forgot to add that it works for me as expected. Daily used on LO 3.5.0 rc[1|2|3] on Ubuntu 10.04 (x86) anc Ubuntu 11.10 (x86_64).

Best regards. JBF

This option is already unchecked from start, I tried to check it but it doesn't works, and by unchecked this a new time, it doesn't works more.

Sorry,

I forgot to inform as follows
1. I am using openSUSE 12,1
2. I am using the Bulgarian version x86 downloaded from The Document Foundation site.
3. I tested it with LO 3.5.0 RC3 and with the final version but both show here the same problem.
4. Newly created or used file - does not matter. The problem exists always.
5. Also I have the same problem with LibreOffice.3.5.0 does not matter which kind of files I use - either ODF or DOC
Comment 14 Jean-Baptiste Faure 2012-02-15 12:52:01 UTC
@Krasimir and Clément: Please try this:
- close LibreOffice
- rename ~/.libreoffice and ~/.openoffice.org if you find them
- rename ~/.config/libreoffice
- restart LibreOffice : it should create a new clean profile without any old data from OOo and previous version of LO
- try LO-Math again

Best regards. JBF

Thanks Jean-Baptiste, it solves the problem for me.

The strange thing is that I purged the previous version instead of removed it (so it normally would have delete config files)....and I guess it havn't done it...

(Previous version uninstalled with dpkg -P, and I've oOo 3.2 in the same time of LibO cause it's integrated in the system with Ubuntu 10.04).

Hope it'll solve the problem for Krasimir too.
Comment 16 kivi 2012-02-17 04:42:54 UTC
A fresh isnstall of openSUSE 12,1 and then deinstallation of the LibreOffice 4.2.x comming with SUSE helped.
After it the installation of LibreOffice.org 3.5.0 worked well - as expected, without my problem.
Probably your solution with renaming the folders will do the same.

Thank you very much for the valuable help and the good hint for solution.

Yes, please close it.

But I think all this need to be addressed for future releases.
Probably some readme note to the future users? Also for the future versions of LO if during the installation you can remove or rename the old directories of OOo or LO it may help to prevent such troubles for other users?

With best regards,
