Having updated to the above version, I opened three *doc files with the program crashing within 10 seconds. The program crashed even when a *doc file had been opened just for a few seconds. Reinstall did not help. The only solution - I had to roll back to LO 3.4.3 and now everything is OK.

Could you attach at least 1 of the documents which crash ? It could help a lot.
I tested your file and had no problem with it. Did you install specific LO extensions ? What java version do you use ? Have you got several Java versions installed ? Did you test with a brand new LO profile ? (see http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile)
