Problem description:

Steps to reproduce:
1. open a .doc/.odt document template that has Hebrew/RTL language characters (the bigger - with pages, characters - the better)
2. try to scroll up and down or edit the document
3. scrolling is smooth as butter (as in Latin/English)

Current behavior: slow and laggy like hell.

Expected behavior: smooth and fact like a hot knife through butter

Platform (if different from the browser):

Browser: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:11.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/11.0

Please provide a document for us to see the problem. Going to mark as NEEDINFO, as soon as you attach a document please move it back to UNCONFIRMED as soon as you get the attachment. Thanks for helping us out

Hey Joel,

After working with Libre for the past 5 months with this issue, i managed to realize another point.
The problem occurs while using the "David" font (the original font used within Microsoft Office), while the counterpart within Libre and the open source world is "David CLM" (an open font which is part of the Culmus project - see here: http://culmus.sourceforge.net/index.html).

David CLM works well under Libre and it's very smooth with the scrolling.
David, however, isn't. Yet, it was great no so long ago :)

cheers and thanks.

Uri

Hey Uri,

Well I opened that file and I'm not seeing any problem with scrolling at all. I'm running Version 3.7.0.0.alpha0+ (Build ID: 711958d). Going to move back to NEEDINFO, try to back up your user folder and delete it and then open up the file, see if it's a user config issue. If it's not, please reopen this one and put your version of LibO. Thanks for sticking with this, we'll try to diagnose the problem :)

I'm seeing part of the issue on my side is that it says "David" but I don't have David in installed. If I highlight a word then the font shows blank. Can you verify that when you highlight words it says "David"

First, I checked it on Libre 3.6.1.2 on Ubuntu 12.10 Beta 1 - and it seems to be ok!! I'm quite shocked.. :)
Second, if you want to be sure you have the "david" font - you can install ttf-mscorefonts-installer in Ubuntu, alongside the "culmus" package - and there you have it.

Just make sure you mark the fonts, and change it to 'David' manually (because it'll autocomplete to 'David CLM')

After scrolling back and forth, it seems to work (with a bit of roughness/lag on the edges/page borders), yet I'm glad to see this solved.

thanks again!
