I have just (yesterday) re-installed Windows 7 Pro 64-bit - all updates applied - only a few other apps installed (MS Office, Chrome, Evernote, etc). Installed LO and started program - crash. I then closed background programs including Avast, started Process Monitor, and tried again. Crash. The attached is an extract from Process Monitor which may be helpful. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645 You will need this to read the file.
I was unable to attach the Process Monitor file because of it's size (50Mb), so it is available on SkyDrive https://skydrive.live.com/redir.aspx?cid=0a3c5864e84dcfb7&resid=A3C5864E84DCFB7!274&parid=A3C5864E84DCFB7!273&authkey=!AB8E5RjflDbCQ3s
I add some Windows hackers into CC. They might be able to check the file from Precess monitor. Wyndham, do you have installed any extensions that do not come from the LO installer, please? Could you please try to run the application with default user configuration? * make sure that soffice.bin is not in task manager (CTRL-ALT-DEL) * rename "C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\LibreOffice\3 (note that it is hidden directory) * run LO again It works for other people, so it happens only with some strange circumstances. We will do our best to help you. On the other hand, it can't block the release of other useful fixes => lowering the severity a bit.
Just to have an update, could you give a try to a newer version of LO (3.5.6 or 3.6.2) and after having renamed your LO profile (see http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile)?
No feedback since months, put it as WFM. Wyndham: don't hesitate to reopen this tracker if you can still reproduce this with a newer LO version (last one is 3.6.4).
