Occurs on ASUS N73SV laptop with Ubuntu 11.10 installed.
Kernel 3.4 experimental installed to test the patch below.
This bug looks like the result of this patch:

There is no flickering problem on 3.4.4 anymore.

Hm, that's slightly unexpected. I guess we can close this as fixed for now. Thanks for reporting your issue, and please reopen this bug if it shows up again.

Wrt your other bug, that patch is on track for 3.5 - it's rather invasive, so won't get backported (at least not through the official stable kernels).
