Occurs on ASUS N73SV laptop with Ubuntu 11.10 installed. Kernel 3.4 experimental installed to test the patch below. This bug looks like the result of this patch: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=44875 >I've just tried the kernel below (which I think includes the patch above) on >Ububntu 11.10: > >http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/drm-intel-experimental/2012-04-19-precise/ > >The problem is fixed now. However there is a still another bug - laptop's >screen is flickering/flashing when ubuntu boot logo is displayed, the external >display works fine. >When loading finished and required resolution set both displays work fine. Video of the flicker: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s5yF1_EMVHM Closer flicker video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5ozDKoSrmQ
There is no flickering problem on 3.4.4 anymore.
Hm, that's slightly unexpected. I guess we can close this as fixed for now. Thanks for reporting your issue, and please reopen this bug if it shows up again. Wrt your other bug, that patch is on track for 3.5 - it's rather invasive, so won't get backported (at least not through the official stable kernels).
