Please see the screenshots in the .odg file: the first one is the original document and the second is the master document containing the former. You can see that there is a huge gap before that image when the document is imported into the master.

I can see the effect in reporter's sample (I recoeved by PM) documents without understanding it.

I asked reporter to created a not confidential sample document (2012-06-17) and to attach it here - if he will not do I will try myself, but currently this has not a big priority for me.
