Description Adam Spiers 2012-04-25 12:57:22 UTC
I have a complex spreadsheet with 15 sheets. If I insert a new blank sheet anywhere to the left of the 10th sheet, hit Control-S, and get a dialog saying "Error saving the document income: Write Error. The file could not be written." I can reproduce using both LibreOffice 3.4.5 on openSUSE 12.1 x86_64, and LibreOffice 3.3.4 on Fedora 15 i386.

After a bit of experimentation based on a few hunches, I discovered that cell D4 in the 10th sheet contained a comment, and if I delete that comment, the Write Error vanishes and I'm able to save the whole spreadsheet.

Unfortunately I cannot share the spreadsheet due to the sensitive nature of its contents. However as a software developer myself, I am very willing to help debug this issue and find a solution. Clearly there is an issue with comment handling, but also when things go wrong like this, the error message needs to be much more helpful than just 'Write Error'.

N.B. this bug seems to have certain parallels with http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.comp.documentfoundation.libreoffice.user/9266

Maybe duplicate of Bug 41054. Try version 3.5.x
Comment 2 Adam Spiers 2012-04-26 04:33:20 UTC
Ah yes, looks like it. Too bad noone mentioned the actual 'Write Error' message anywhere in that bug, otherwise I would have found it when searching and not wasted a lot of time diagnosing and reporting the problem :-(

I'll try to check with 3.5.x soon.
