The .tar.gz file from ftp://ftp.sgi.com/opengl/opengl14.tgz is recognized as a TeX font metrics file. However, it is really a .tar.gz file. This means that gnome doesn't let me open the file by doubleclicking it. $ apt-cache show shared-mime-info Package: shared-mime-info [...] Version: 0.16-3 Hexdump of the start of the file: $ xxd opengl14.tgz |head 0000000: 1f8b 0800 1238 ce3f 0203 ecfd 77b4 ebd8 .....8.?....w... 0000010: 7de7 0b7a e69f d7ab 5f5b aaba 75ef 0924 }..z...._[..u..$ 0000020: 9141 8039 93e7 1ce6 1c01 8239 8360 0073 .A.9.......9.`.s [...]
Thanks for your bug report! I cannot reproduce this issue with shared-mime-info/xdgmime HEAD. Since both MIME types were basically left untouched, maybe you could check back whether test-mime from xdgmime CVS (:pserver:anoncvs@cvs.freedesktop.org:/cvs/mime module: xdgmime) returns the correct MIME type? If so, the application/library using xdgmime should sync with xdgmime HEAD.
Marking as WORKSFORME.
