demonstration of the bug

Hi everyone,

in my opinion, I've found a bug concerning the table cell padding in LibreOffice Writer.

Let's say you have a table like this one :

+++++++++++
+    + B1 +
+ A1 ++++++
+    + B2 +
+++++++++++
+    + B3 +
+    ++++++
+ A2 + B4 +
+    ++++++
+    + B5 +
+++++++++++

Cells of column A have a padding of 0.1 cm on all sides, cells of column B only have a 0.1 cm padding on the left and right side, but not on top or bottom (0.0 cm). Normally, text in column B should be closer to the top and bottom border, but it isn't. Unfortunately, you don't see no difference whether the top and bottom padding is 0.0 cm or 0.1 cm. If you change in column B the value to 0.2 cm, the padding becomes visibly broader, even at column A.

It seems that LibreOffice Writer doesn't respect the cell-specific padding, at least for the top and bottom padding.

Hi email@monsieur-becker.de,

I'm trying to reproduce your problem but I don't see where you fix these padding value ??
can you tell me what menu you use to fix theses ?

Also, I see that problem seem's linked to the fact that first column is a "grouped" cells : Have you try with a non grouped cells in column A, is the problem appear ?

Regards.

Hi ydutrieux@gmail.com,

I wasn't very precise in the choice of my expression. In fact, it isn't padding, it's spacing.

When you select a cell in Writer, right-click, choose Table, and then click the Borders tab, you can specify for this one cell "the amount of space that you want to leave between the border and the contents of the selection."

Contrary to your guess, it doesn't matter if the cell is grouped or not:

+++++++++++
+    + B1 +
+ A1 ++++++
+    + B2 +
+++++++++++

+++++++++++
+ A1 + B1 +
+++++++++++
+ A2 + B2 +
+++++++++++

When you change the top and bottom spacing of A1 from 0.1 cm to 0.4 cm, all cells of the same row (in the first example B1 and B2, in the second only B1) will have the same top and bottom spacing, although their specific spacing is 0.1 cm. It's the same situation when you doesn't change a cell of the A column, but of the B, C, D or ... column.

Another example: You change the top spacing of A1 to 0.5cm and the bottom spacing of B1 to the same size: all cells in the first row will look like they have a top and bottom spacing of 0.5cm, because LO doesn't respect the cell-specific spacing.

It is kind of surprising that a change of the left and/or right spacing doesn't affect any other cell neither in the same row nor in the same column.

Yours,

Julius
