Description Daniel John Evans 2012-05-25 03:54:25 UTC
Problem description: On reading the first spreadsheet following startup many fields are underlined in red. They are all fields which I have added to the standard dictionary. If I right click on just one of those fields then the red underlining disappears from all of them. It seems that the standard dictionary is not applied till I right click a field.

When LibreOffice 3.5.4 was released the bug disappeared. Presumably it was a known fault fixed in that release.

Comment 8 Daniel John Evans 2012-11-27 19:59:34 UTC
I'm now using LibreOffice 3.6.3.2
Browser is Firefox 16.0.2

Thank you bfoman for investigating this bug. I have attached a test spreadsheet extracted from a real spreadsheet. I've also attached two screenclips showing the spreadsheet with highlights and highlights removed (unfortunately, I attached the first screenclip twice by accident.)

The bug has got a little worse. Right clicking an underlined word is no longer sufficient to apply the dictionary to the spreadsheet. It is necessary to click on ADD in the drop down list resulting from the right click. That removes the underlining from the selected word but from no others, even from duplicates. Right clicking on a duplicate gives a drop down list which does not contain ADD, so there is no way of removing underlining from the duplicate. However, saving, closing and reopening the file removes underlining.

If I can help with this I will. However, I have only user knowledge of LibreOffice. For example I would like to look in the dictionary but don't know how to.

I read this as another issue than original reported - you mean that duplicates of words added to dictionary are not automatically recognized. Switching AutoSpellcheck off and on will recognize the duplicates. Right? I can confirm that.

I followed the instructions for looking at the standard dictionary and noticed that the check box for it was not checked. I checked it and this appears to have cured the problem. I'm saying this first as it makes your first question less relevant.

As for your first question, from my point of view it was the same problem but worse. I had a sea of red and had to go through more hoops to get rid of it. But yes, failure to recognise a duplicate word and remove the underlining was new---before it was merely enough to right click on an underlined word to remove underlining from all words.

As for AutoSpellcheck I assume that is switched on/off by the
Tools>Options>Language Settings>Writing Aids>Options>Check spelling as you type
check box. I haven't tried it as I no longer have underlined words to try it on.

Thank you for your help with this, bfoman. I intend to wait a few days to see if the problem has gone from all spreadsheets and new ones; also to explore dictionaries/spelling in text documents. If at the end of that I'm convinced the problem has gone I'll add a further comment here and follow whatever procedure is necessary to close this bug.

This is not, after all, a bug. The problem was caused by the check box for the standard dictionary not being checked. See comment 10.
