AutoCorrect Options behaviour in different LibreOffice documents

This bug report applies to Impress and Draw and partly to Calc (for formatted text). The attached document should clarify this potentially confusing bug report.

The only way to replace any text with pre-formatted text is to mark formatted text, click on "Tools" in the menu and choose "AutoCorrect Options". In Writer this works as promised and the marked text is already in the "replace with" field (even though it is displayed without any formatting).

Calc will also take over marked text into the "replace with" field, but all formatting is gone and replacement will be with unformatted text.

Impress and Draw do not take over marked text at all. I assume the problem here is that text is in text fields in Impress and Draw documents. In Writer documents text in text fields is also not taken over.

Checked with:
LO 4.0.0.0.beta2
Build ID: own W7 debug build
Windows 7 Professional SP1 64 bit

Confirmed, but all formatting in Writer is gone and replacement is done with unformatted text, seems this is a regression as it works fine in LO 3.5.6.

Confirmed.

Could not reproduce - Impress, Draw take over marked text into the "replace with" field.

Cannot reproduce reported problem with Draw and Impress in 4.1.2.1.
The regression that bfoman referred to in comment 1, is fixed in bug 64699 (and bug 67697).

As this bug is titled "AutoCorrect Options does not take over marked text into "replace with" field", and this functionality apparently works in recent versions, closing as WORKSFORME.

For ability to store formatted autocorrection text in Calc, Draw and Impress, please file a separate enhancement request.

Thank you for reporting.

@Mike: Thank you for introducing unnecessary bureaucracy. Please tell me how I can file an enhancement request in a bug report system.

I edited the title of the bug to reflect on the actual issue.
For some reason, Writer does not copy formatting into AutoCorrect any more (v4.1.2.2). Since AutoCorrect offers an option to only replace text, and not text with formatting, I assume this to be an actual bug.

In Calc, Impres, ... the "Text only" option is grayed out, so I cannot claim the loss of formatting to be a bug. Instead, I would like to request this as a feature!

(And again, I _hate_ that different parts of LibreOffice show different behavior! It is very confusing to the user...)

You are welcome. But aside the sarcasm, you should know that the bug tracker is a tool that enables developers to fix bugs that users report. And in order to be efficient, this tool needs some rules to follow. One of them is "one issue per one report". If it is ignored, the report having multiple problems mixed up is practically impossible to track if it is fixed or not, and in which stage the work on it. It doesn't make life better (neither user's nor developers) to bring the report to unusable state by cluttering it with different problems.

> Please tell me how I can file an enhancement request in a bug report system.
You just need to set the "severity" field (in this particular issue it is currently set to "normal") to "enhancement".

> I edited the title of the bug to reflect on the actual issue.
As I tried to describe a few lines above, this step is useless. You experience a number of issues, and each one should be tracked separately (or otherwise you risk to be unable to attract any developers to fix them). If I understand it, in some earlier versions, the selected text wasn't copied to "replace" field at all. If this is true, and this works now, then this issue should be closed as WORKSFORME (this means that this issue was fixed by an unknown commit), and should not be reused for other, however related, issues. Only if I misunderstood the initial report, and the problem was the lack of formatting in copied autocorrect item, then this issue could be rightfully reopened.

As I said in comment 2, this specific problem was already fixed. The fix should be available in 4.1.3.

I agree with you. This is very annoying for me, too, and creates troubles to my co-workers (we use LO at work for quite some time). Although we don't encounter problems in this specific area, this seems to be a valid enhancement request, that I urge you to file as a separate report.

I don't close this bug, but please do it yourself if this sounds reasonable.

Thank you for your time reporting problems! This really makes the software better.

Thanks for your elaborate reply! Yes, I was being ironic, because I sometimes feel that people here don't care about improving LibreOffice. Instead they only want to close bug reports, and if that can be done by pointing out a formal mistake ... bingo! ;-)

Sorry for being snappy, I did not want to upset you! I really appreciate your reply and it makes sense! This bug is closed now and I might open a proper bug report and a proper feature request sometime in the future (when I have the time and still remember that I intended to report this ;-).
