xclock -fg green gives you a white background and still black hands and tics.
xclock -rv gives you a solid black square.

The only Xclock-related resource I have is

XClock.borderWidth: 2

I have had this problem for a very long time (years?)

xclock -fg green works if you add -norender, but then the clock isn't antialiased.
Comment 2 Erik Andren 2006-06-01 09:35:56 UTC
Is this really a bug?
This behaviour is even documented in the xclock man.

-render This option tells xclock to use the Xrender extension to draw an
anti-aliased face.
This is the default if xclock has been compiled with Xrender support.
Note that the color selection options and resources used when Xrender is in
effect differ from the standard options.

Closing.
