Description Dave 2012-07-26 19:11:25 UTC
I was switching desktops in fvwm when X froze for a minute, then crashed. /var/log/Xorg.0.log reports a bus error.

Below I'm pasting the top of Xorg.0.log with the version information, followed by the backtrace near the end of the file. Let me know what other information you need; I won't restart X on this box until I've gathered whatever data there is to be had. I'm accessing it only through ssh at the moment; I haven't touched the console since the crash. (The console shows mostly fatal errors from various xterms and xinit.)

On the other hand, in 24 hours there's been no acknowledgment that anyone has read this bug report, and I can't leave this machine sitting at the console indefinitely. So I took a snapshot of the system disk; hopefully, whatever is needed to determine the cause of this crash can be found there.

The full X log and dmesg, for a start.

This appears to be a bug in either the XAA code or in mga's interaction with it. XAA is no longer a thing in xserver 1.20, so, closing.
