Description Zeki Bildirici 2012-07-28 12:59:43 UTC
Problem description:

The page count field does show the page and count. It only shows the count.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open a LibreOffice Writer document
2. Add header or footer, or just add the field Page Count
3. Add more pages to the document. The field will show the count only.

Current behavior:

The field only shows the #count#

Expected behavior:

The field should use the format page #page of #count#

ex. Page 2 of 5

The string in Pootle: https://translations.documentfoundation.org/tr/libo_ui/translate.html?unit=9415195

May seen on Writer Guide page 137 https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/images/7/73/WG3400-WriterGuideLO.pdf

Well, actually I've figured this issue in Turkish UI. The a7m string was translated as:

Sayfa #page# #count#, which gaves the error that keep the #page# #count# variables untranstlated. I thought that LibreOffice doesnot recognize space as a character, and i changed it to

Sayfa #page# / #count# which i hope to work.

Btw i changed the UI to English and tried it. English UI has the same problem.

I had a clean isntall of LibreOffice 3.6. RC2 with English and German UI. I've repeated the problem.

Zeki

Why ?

If you want "Page 2 of 5" insert "Page #page# of #count#"

User may want page count without page number and page number without page count. They are two different fields.

I am not sure to understand well what you want, so, please, attach a document which demonstrates the problem.

I've figured that the pootle link was related to DB Wizard. Sorry for that.

However, i think that's not only me to understand this field function as page page of count. As i said it was documented. See page 137 of the Writer guide attached.

You may consider, it as to say: firstly add a page, than type of than add the count field. But i think it is not the way that it should be.

But it should be simpler than now. The end user should guess to combine page+count fields. Doing it simple, but figuring how to add a simple Page / Count is sometimes not that easy. For example i understand from the guides page that, this fields working as it is shown on the figure. But actually it is not.

Yes may be, but it may be not.

On the other hand, i don't think that the count is widely used separate than the page number. Commonly, it makes no sense to have just the count in all pages of a document. For example, the Writer Guide is about 463 pages. Who wants to see 463 in each pages? It is ok if you will use it, as "This document consists #count# pages". But i can say that i'am working in a bank, we create aggrements, letters etc. we should use page of count, and i never needed to use count separately.

Micrsoft Word have various options for page numbering; page number + page number combined with count.

Wish to have some options for Page Number field.

I think it must be easier to add the a/m format with one click.

Sorry for the confusion, and misunderstanding.(It can be misunderstand when localized too) But you may consider this bug report as a request for adding a new Page Numbering Sytle as:

Insert->Fields->Page Number/Count or something suitable.

This page says the same thing as my comment #1.

Set to enhancement. Why not, if a developer is interested.

IMO, fixed in a different way - using a dialog to make it simpler - by bug 86630.
