This problem appears specific to "Remote Desktop Services" being installed.  Everything renders properly on WinXP, Win7, and Win2k8... Until we install Remote Desktop Services (required) on Win2k8.

Some tested fonts include:
Calibri - Works
Times New Roman - Doesn't work.
Helvetica - Doesn't work.
Courier - Works
Garamond - Works.

Can you still reproduce this under newer poppler versions?

Not something that I can test, unfortunately.  We noticed the issue in other software (DiffPDF).  While I was able to determine where the issue was, compiling this software myself with a different version of Poppler is not something I'm capable of doing.
I believe the newer versions of the software now use a different engine, so for me this issue is no longer impacting us.
