I have created an evdev configureability patch, which allows each device to be configured independantly, instead of with xmodmap, as well as allows mapping all axis to other axis. I would love to get some feedback, and (perhaps), get it submitted. I added the patch to the original evdev bug, but that one only patches cleanly against 6.9, and not 7.0.0 from the CVS. I'm currently using it with my Apple Mighty Mouse, and MS Trackball, and it seems to work fine.
