Description Juan C Nuno 2006-01-26 05:57:08 UTC
The current edit-delete icon is the internationally recognized symbol for "no."
Which is different than "remove" or "delete." I'm using the Tango icon theme
on my Ubuntu 5.10, and I see that "no" icon in Evolution for the Trash folder
and the Delete Message action and it just doesn't fit for me.

May I recommend the user-trash recycle bin with an arrow pointing into it, for
"move to trash?"
Comment 1 Jakub Steiner 2006-01-26 08:33:05 UTC
From the description these are actually two bugs. One is that evolution and some
other apps are using the wrong gtk icon for trash. They should not use
stock_delete. While in gnome icon theme delete action happens to be a trash,
that metaphor has its issues.

The other bug is that the current edit-delete icon metaphor is not appropriate,
which I happen to kinda agree with. I don't have any better propositions right
now. Making it a trash bin like in git poses problems -- some delete actions
have nothing to do with the trash and we are confusing the user into thinking
so. Adding an arrow doesn't take that problem away.

The issue about the Evolution trash icon was raised in
https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/tango-icon-theme/+bug/31034 as well.

It's only a suggestion but what about a document destructor? Things like that :
http://www.lhommemoderne.com/product/260-260/12239.jpg who cut your document
into tiny pieces of paper so nobody can read them anymore.

It can maybe give a good metaphor that you will "destroy" the data without being
able to take it back.

I'll give the shredder a try.
Comment 6 Rodney Dawes 2006-07-24 12:58:35 UTC
The icon in CVS is now a shredder. I'm marking this as fixed.
