Description John Smith 2012-12-02 22:22:28 UTC
Problem description: The Insert key on the keyboard is disabled and will not switch to the OverWrite mode

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open a text document. Press the Insert key on the keyboard. Proper behaviour follows this action.
2. Select EDIT-CHANGES-RECORD to enable the function.
3. Pressing the Insert key now has no effect.

Current behavior: As above.

Expected behavior: Pressing the Insert key should toggle the Insert Mode function between Insert and OverWrite.

Operating System: Windows 7

If in Overwrite mode and Record changes is selected using Edit - Changes - Record,
then Overwrite is disabled and Writer switches back to Insert mode.

I confirm that the described behavior is still reproducible in LibreOffice 4.4.3.0.0+. But for me it is not a bug but an intended behavior. Indeed how do you want to track and show changes if you can overwrite what is written?
An indication that this behavior is intentional is when you use the mouse instead of the Insert key to toggle between Insert and Overwrite modes: in the status bar if you click in the area left of the selection mode, you can toggle between Insert and Overwrite modes, exactly as with the Insert key. And activating track changes has exactly the same effect here if you click in this area.

So closing as NotABug. Please, feel free to reopen and argue if you disagree.

Best regards. JBF
