The Cairo graphics library seems to be gaining interest and may be used in future versions of gtk, Mozilla, OpenOffice.org, etc. - especially for SVG support. It is supposed to have different font backends for different platforms. Someone should investigate what it would take to make an STSF font backend for Cairo.
Looks like no one is going to do this.

Because Cairo already has ATSUI backend, so making STSF backend might be easier than anything from scratch. How about the status of latest STSF? Yet I'm not sure which X version I should use to build latest STSF. Xorg-7.0 is expected?
It's been a couple of years since anyone has worked on STSF - it's mostly abandoned at this point. I believe the last release was built for Xorg 6.7 or 6.8, but I don't remember for sure.
I cannot remember who told me, but I think I've ever heard as "building system of Xorg is drastically changed since X11R7, so waiting for X11R7 is better than porting to X11R6.9..." Anyway, recently X11R7.1 is released. A few weeks ago, David Turner proposed his quick fix for legacy FreeType2 issue, and the long long confusion of XFree86-4.x and X11R6.[5-9] will be reduced. I think it's time for me to check STSF status again. There's any test data for STSF rendering behaviours?
