Using LibreOffice 3.6.4.3 on Windows XP. I have a problem with Times New Roman font:
1. Open new Writer document.
2. 'Times New Roman' font is selected by default. I just start typing and I see font being typed in "italic" despite I haven't selected italic button or pressed keyboard shortcut.

Expected result: font should NOT be in italic if I did not selected it to be italic.

Additional tests:
1. Select typed text and click on Bold button and text gets into bold, but it is not italic anymore - works as expected.
2. Select typed text and click on Italic button (so now bold and italic selected), text is displayed in bold and italic - works as expected.
3. Select any other font like e.g. Arial and if bold, italic, underline are all NOT selected then font is not italic - works as expected.

Conclusion: Only a problem with "Times New Roman" when bold/italic/underline are all dis-selected - text becomes italic, despite italic not being selected.

I have also cleaned up a profile:
1. I closed LibreOffice, renamed the profile directory from:
C:\Documents and Settings\[user]\Application Data\LibreOffice\3
to
C:\Documents and Settings\[user]\Application Data\LibreOffice\3_old
and started LibreOffice.

2. I see folder C:\Documents and Settings\[user]\Application Data\LibreOffice\3 was recreated.

3. File | New | Text Document and new document opens.

4. Times New Roman font is selected by default, so I have just started to type text "test" and font is typed in italic again. So this is not a profile problem.

5. If I repeat the "Additional test" section and the result is the same.

Not reproducible with LO 3.6.4.3 (on WinXP 32b).

When I open the attached sample document 'times_new_roman_font_problem.odt', the first line has the font style 'TNR Regular', but *not* 'TNR Italic'
(tested UI: en-US, and Slovenian).

See also the attached screenshot 'times_new_roman_font_problem.png'.

Not reproducable LO3.6.4.3 Win7 64-bit.
Everything looks perfect with the attached file like @manj_k.

With clean profile, I have opened style properties window (just like manj_k did) and if I select "Times New Roman" font then I see there is no "Regular" option, but if I select "Arial" there is a "Regular" option. Looks like there is something wrong with particular font or something...

Now I have found out that on this computer where a problem appeared there was no "Times New Roman" regular font! It looks like somehow deleted. See details "after_copy_of_font" attachment.

It looks like LibreOffice _selects_ italic font if regular font is missing.

I have copied "Times New Roman" regular font from another Windows XP and now the problem is fixed. So problem fixed. Thanks for help.

P.S. I have installed Pinta image editor from http://www.pinta-project.com/download.ashx to test the same problem using font and I see Pinta displays bold font if regular is missing. So it looks like it is up to an application to display a font.

Just an additional question. I always thought that fonts are embed into ODF document. So if I send the document to some person that do not have some font installed on computer that I have used in my document it will fail to display correctly. Don't like this... Is there a plan to embed fonts into document?

P.S. If I am not mistaken PDF document has embed fonts, isn't it?
