I cannot enable fastwrite on via kt600 motheboard for Radeon 9200 card. Windows driver and fglrx do this without any problems and system is stable. Problem with radeon module: xorg/system freeze if this option is enabled.
xorg-7.0, kernel 2.6.15. But with xorg-6.8.2 and kernel 2.6.14 was the same.
Are you absolutely sure it works with fglrx and/or windows ? have you double checked the actual config space settings to verify that FW is indeed enabled with these ? There are all sort of strange issues with FW and it tends to be blacklisted at the driver level in lots of situations.... It could also be possible that fglrx and/or windows tweaks some settings somewhere related to the AGP interface that makes FW reliable while it's not by default (clock skew, additional wait states, that sort of thing...). It might be useful to compare the values of some of the AGP & AGP PLL related registers...
Yes, It is enabled. I'm absolutely sure. I have utility for windows (it is like lspci): pci32. AGPFastWrite should not enabled unless you want to go look for trouble anyway.
