Description jvian10 2006-02-25 11:28:47 UTC
trying to do an install of FC5t3 on my new machine
Giga-Byte GA-K8N Pro-SLI mobo
2gb ram
AMD Athalon 64 X2 3800+ cpu
eVGA GeForce 6600 PCIe video
Samsung SyncMaster 213T monitor

using the x86_64 install disks for FC5t3.
I cannot do any graphical install. The screen will never come readable.
It aways just goes to a highly distorted and not synced display.

Performed a text install instead and tried then to enable X.
The nv driver gives the same as during the install. Cannot be used in any way.
I am forced to manually configure the vesa driver to get any modes of X to work.

I suspect this may be affected by the fact the monitor prefers to operate at
60Hz vertrefresh but the VertRefresh line in xorg.conf is not honored.

current /etc/X11/xorg.conf file

the line "Option IgnoreEDID" was from using the nvidia driver on my FC4
system (another machine). I put it in here in an attempt to get this one to
recognize the required 60Hz vert refresh rate for the 1600x1200 resoluion on my
monitor as well as specifically limiting the vertrefresh to 60.0 hz.
