LibreOffice currently does not support embedding of MP4 and MOV that use the very popular H.264 video compression standard. How to reproduce: * Download the sample video here: http://webian.org/dev/export/22/prototypes/html5/videos/trailer_dvd.mp4 * Create a new impress file and try to embedd the video via "Insert" -> "Movie and Sound". * The file embedds and also the sound works, but video does not work. * Apparently the H.264 compression is not supported: "** Message: don't know how to handle video/x-h264, stream-format=(string)byte-stream, alignment=(string)au, level=(string)3, profile=(string)main, width=(int)720, height=(int)576, framerate=(fraction)25/1, pixel-aspect-ratio=(fraction)259/180, parsed=(boolean)true" Solution: Please add support for the H.264 compression standard.
It is supported, confirmed on 3.6.4.3 on Bodhi Linux. Are you sure you have the appropriate codecs installed. Marking this as WFM as we do support the codecs. If you have further questions regarding mov or mp4 movies in Presentation please go ahead and ask on our Ask support site or ask on the user mailing list and someone will help you out. Thanks!
Thanks Joel for looking into the bug report. Can you please also check this bug in version 4.0? I tried in Version 3.6.2.2 (Build ID: 360m1(Build:2)) and the video runs smoothly in Impress. The code is installed here. Then I tried version 4.0 rc2 and the movie is not recognized as video, but only audio is played and there is the error message on the console "** Message: don't know how to handle video/x-h264..." Could be a regression.
I meant: "The codecs are installed here."
At this point you should be using 4.0.0.3 release not 4.0.0.2 rc as there have been fixes released and .3 release is the stable version.
Thanks Joel,iIs version 4.0.0.3 on your computer able to play the movie? I cannot update 3.6.2.2 on my system at the moment. That's why I still use rc2, which installs in parallel, for testing. Sorry.
no worries, indeed 4.0.0.3 works like a charm :-D
Thanks. Do you also have such quick solutions for bug 60522 and bug 36635? These codecs are also supported, but apparently the user cannot select these files.
Hi, Testing video feature in impress. I have a .mp4 H264/AAC video file. On an Ubuntu 14.04 live, all codecs installed (I can play the file in default video player) Default current ubuntu version : Version: 4.2.0.4 Build ID: 420m0(Build:4) => insert video file is OK LibO Version: 4.2.1.1 Build ID: d7dbbd7842e6a58b0f521599204e827654e1fb8b --installed from website .debs-- => can't insert the video file console message : ** Message: don't know how to handle video/x-h264, stream-format=(string)byte-stream, alignment=(string)au, level=(string)3.1, profile=(string)constrained-baseline, width=(int)768, height=(int)576, framerate=(fraction)25/1, pixel-aspect-ratio=(fraction)1/1, parsed=(boolean)true Note : I can't insert this file at all on Windows7 x64, "file not supported" message
WORKSFORME with latest nightly. Version: 4.3.0.0.alpha0+ Build ID: f9cc0daec26016722bf5260e4e2634e6dcfe25a2 TinderBox: MacOSX-x86@49-TDF, Branch:master, Time: 2014-04-12_01:40:37 OSX 10.9.2 with VLC and QuickTime installed. H264 MP4 file plays fine in both. And I can add it to LO and also play the video when starting the presentation. Please test with latest nightly and re-open if you still experience trouble.
