Description stephen 2013-02-16 23:45:24 UTC
on acer 5250, Ubuntu 12.04

when using graphical login or failsafe login the computer freezes completely and only a hard restart can restart.

when dropping to root shell and attempting to start X from there I see the following messages:

error: could not create lock file /tmp/.tX0.lock
error: unable to connect to X server
error: error locking authority file /root/.Xauthority

pls suggest fixes or where to find a more detailed log.
thanks everybody
