Description Luis Villa 2013-02-20 19:20:23 UTC
Steps to reproduce:
1) Have a mac without Java (i.e., a default Mac)
2) install LO
3) Open a document
4) type some text
5) hit command+C to copy/paste

expected result: text is copied

unexpected result: I'm prompted to install a complete Java runtime. Dismissing the dialog without installing Java leads to this popping up every time I try to copy and paste.

After the Java runtime is installed, copying text works fine, but this is a jarring user experience for a new user and should be remedied, perhaps by using a built-in JRE, automatically requiring JRE installation as part of the LO JRE, or by removing the JRE dependency for copying.

Hi Luis - thanks for the report; we've worked quite hard to reduce mandatory Java dependencies to avoid nasties like this. Sounds rather unpleasant.

Tor - any ideas, sounds fun :-) I wonder what extension is getting triggered.

@Joren - can you just confirm this on OSX for us?
Comment 3 Joel Madero 2013-04-16 18:11:38 UTC
apparently uninstalling Java in OSX is really difficult...we need someone with OSX that has not installed Java to test this one out....not sure who we might CC on it to get confirmation
Comment 4 Jorendc 2013-04-17 10:29:14 UTC
I finally managed to deinstall Java from my Mac OSX 10.8.3, following this guide http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-57408841-263/how-to-check-for-and-disable-java-in-os-x/

As mentioned there: "Unfortunately there is no direct or easy way to uninstall Java, so once installed the only way to remove it and all of its components completely is to reinstall OS X;"

But, as I could and explained over there. I don't have any Java version installed now. Going to the Options > LibreOffice > Advanced shows the same (no Java versions).

I followed your steps, but I can not reproduce this. No popup showed up, text is copy/pasted correctly.

Does someone else has input for this bug report?

Kind regards,
Joren

But it is possible that already the fact that you *have* had Java installed (even if you then removed it) made your case not comparable to what Luis saw on a "pure" Mac that never had Java.

jorendc: you uninstalled Java but did you rename/remove your LO directory profile? Indeed, I wonder if the LO directory profile could have kept some Java information. Again, it's just an idea, nothing more.

Thanks Julien for your input. But :(, no go. Still no popup. I can copy/paste correctly without warning. I think because what Tor said. My laptop isn't a clean install. Maybe there are some residues on my computer.
Comment 8 Julien Nabet 2013-04-18 06:22:14 UTC
jorendc: ok. Have you checked if there was Java profile somewhere (in similar places than LO)? Have you tried a "find / -name jre*" or "find / -name java*" ?
It could help to find residues.

cannot reproduce with :
LibO 4.0.2.2 (Build ID: 4c82dcdd6efcd48b1d8bba66bfe1989deee49c3)
MacOS 10.7.5

Comment 10 Julien Nabet 2013-04-19 10:16:05 UTC
Luis: following last comments, could you give a try to 4.0.2?
Comment 11 Luis Villa 2013-04-22 20:55:07 UTC
I don't have time right now to do a Java uninstall but will try as soon as I can.
