Xorg log file

Running Arch Linux with Linux kernel 3.7.9 and version 7.1.0 of the Radeon driver I have experienced numerous issues with the graphics ether having a hard lockup or the system going through a soft reset with a multihead setup.

This is all I could find from the dmesg output after one of the soft resets take place:

This sounds like a duplicate of bug 50655. You might try mesa from git master or the 9.1 release.
Comment 2 Adam Jimerson 2013-02-26 13:49:59 UTC
My system just upgraded to Mesa 9.1 and that did not seem to resolve the issue, I can try and install the mesa-git package which is at 2013-02-23.

dmesg output

I'm getting something similar on Arch. Probably for about the past 3 weeks, though I'm not sure when it started exactly.

Mesa 9.1.1
xf86-video-ati 7.1.0
Linux 3.8.7
Radeon HD 5670

If I launch Minecraft and expand it to full screen, it repros 100% of the time within 10 seconds.

It repros both booting with radeon.no_wb=1 and without, if that's useful.

Can you bisect? You issue sounds like a duplicate of bug 62721.
Comment 7 Beej Jorgensen 2013-04-17 21:55:04 UTC
Alex: you're right--mine's a duplicate of bug 62721. Running with R600_HYPERZ=0 prevents the issue from occurring in Minecraft. Dunno if it's the same as Adam's, though.
Comment 8 Adam Jimerson 2013-04-17 23:23:57 UTC
I have not been able to track my problem down to a certain application, or Kernel mode. What I can tell is that when my GPU hard locks switching to a TTY session is useless. I ether have to hard boot, or ssh into the box and reboot it there.
Comment 9 StephenM 2013-05-14 17:58:45 UTC
I wasn't sure if my previous post went through or got rejected. Please disregard this post. This was simply a test to see if i could post

This thread can be removed. Sorry for the inconvenience. I will post my question again

I'm having a hard time getting the ati radeon driver to work properly with slackware current 3.8.8 kernel. The driver will randomly crash and produce a corrupted image on the screen. Eventually Xwindows will stop working entirely and the box will freeze. SSH still works but it appears that X is taking up nearly 100% cpu. I have experienced the problem where the screen will appear functional for about 10 seconds then go completely black. Here are some stats from my server. Any help would be appreciated.

(EE) [mi] mieq is *NOT* the cause. It is a victim.
(EE) [mi] EQ overflow continuing. 100 events have been dropped.

[197084.987] [mi] Increasing EQ size to 512 to prevent dropped events.
[197084.987] [mi] EQ processing has resumed after 929 dropped events.
[197084.987] [mi] This may be caused my a misbehaving driver monopolizing the server's resources.
(EE) [mi] EQ overflowing. Additional events will be discarded until existing events are processed.

Sorry I meant to also include i'm having the exact same issue. I had this on another forum. If anyone has any updates to this issue please let me know. I'm using the default radeon driver not the propriety amd/ati driver.
